Weight of the Galaxy
Mass Effect · Commander Shepard
The story in the song
This original Mass Effect tribute follows Commander Shepard through the Reaper War as grief and resolve struggle inside the same scarred hero: every lost world and fallen friend becomes another ghost to carry, while every life still breathing gives Shepard a reason to rise.
A cinematic sci-fi orchestral synth-rock duet moves from intimate survivor's guilt through the whisper of surrender into a heroic answer, keeping Female Shepard's grief and Male Shepard's resolve distinct until they finally become one.

Lyrics
How many stars can a heart watch die
Before it forgets the shape of the sky?
Earth wore fire like a second sun,
Khar'shan fell silent, overrun.
Palaven bled beneath its moon,
Thessia’s towers bowed too soon.
Billions gone without a grave;
Their silence asks what I can save.
They carved ‘Commander’ over my name,
Then sent me walking through the flame.
But steel can split and legends grieve -
How many ghosts can one heart keep?
Every shelter has a light left on,
Every child still waits for dawn.
They did not follow armor or rank;
They saw me rise each time I sank.
No sacrifice can be unmade,
But there are still lives left to save.
One breath, one fleet, one final mile -
Peace is the world beyond this fire.
I hear the ones I couldn’t save.
Then carry every name engraved.
Their voices pull me toward the deep.
The dead don’t ask the living to sleep.
What if I’m only flesh and bone?
Then you were never meant to stand alone.
I bear the weight of the galaxy,
Every lost world underneath my skin.
I bear the hope of the galaxy,
Every last light saying, ‘Rise again.’
If I break, let me break toward morning.
If I fall, let the future rise through me.
I stand for the living
With the dead inside of me -
Under the weight of the galaxy.
One stayed behind where the bomb-light bloomed;
Whole fleets became unmarked tombs.
The man who taught me how to stand
Died watching fire consume our land.
Now something speaks beneath the pain
In borrowed voices, soft as rain:
‘Lay down the fight. You’ve done enough.
Let silence be the shape of love.’
That isn’t mercy. That’s a chain.
It makes a weapon out of pain.
They do not own the names we mourn
Or get to choose what follows dawn.
No medal makes the dying right;
No victory restores a life.
But what they saved is breathing still -
And while it breathes, I will not yield.
There is no strength left in my hands.
Then feel the hands of those who stand.
The sky is closing over me.
Open your eyes. This isn’t peace.
I bear the weight of the galaxy,
Every lost world underneath my skin.
I bear the hope of the galaxy,
Every last light saying, ‘Rise again.’
If I break, let me break toward morning.
If I fall, let the future rise through me.
I stand for the living
With the dead inside of me -
Under the weight of the galaxy.
There will be mornings after this,
Hands rebuilding, brick by brick.
Ships will carry seed, not guns;
Cities rise beneath new suns.
And those who never made it home
Will live in everything we grow -
Not as a weight that makes me kneel,
But gravity that keeps me real.
I bear the weight of the galaxy,
Every lost world underneath my skin.
I bear the hope of the galaxy,
Every last light - rise again.
If I break, I will break toward morning.
If I fall, let the future rise through me.
The weight is still inside of me...
Then let it be my gravity.
I stand for the living
With the dead inside of me.
I open my eyes and breathe
Under the weight of the galaxy.
One breath.
One dawn.
I’m still here.
