From Iron Throne to Ashes

Baldur's Gate · Sarevok

The story in the song

This original song is written as a tribute to Sarevok Anchev — the Bhaalspawn warlord who tried to seize godhood as the new Lord of Murder by driving Baldur’s Gate and Amn toward war through the Iron Throne’s schemes. It treats him as both conqueror and ruin: a villain forged in blood, ambition, and the need to make the world remember his name.

The song moves from poisoned iron and war drums at the edge of Baldur’s Gate to the Undercity where Sarevok falls, then beyond death into the fractured afterlife of Bhaal’s bloodline. It follows the character as a force that never fully ends: first a butcher-king in waiting, then a scar on the city, then a name dragged back through darkness, never healed, never absolved.

Lyrics

Black iron sunrise, the Gate learns fear A son of Bhaal with a crown drawn near Ore turns to poison, the war drums ring He feeds the flames to become their king Raised by the knife and the creed of red He bought the future with the butchered dead Iron Throne whispers, Amn takes the blame Every road to the city remembers his name Temple beneath us, ambition above No god ever granted him mercy or love He wanted the blood and the throne and the sky A kingdom to witness the reason men die Sarevok, Deathbringer - black steel, crimson sky (Sa-re-vok!) Sarevok, Deathbringer - too proud to kneel or die (Sa-re-vok!) From the Gate to the grave, hear the war drums cry Son of the Lord of Murder, your shadow never dies Torches in shadow, Tamoko in tears Steel in the Undercity, the end of his years Still in the silence, his old hunger survived A scar on the city that never quite died Pocket Plane whisper, a shard of a soul Dragged from the dark, but never made whole Murder Tribunal, old ghosts speak his name He traded one fall for a lifetime of stain Sarevok, Deathbringer - black steel, crimson sky (Sa-re-vok!) Sarevok, Deathbringer - too proud to kneel or die (Sa-re-vok!) Iron to ashes, and ashes to fame Fall if you must, but remember the name Sarevok, Deathbringer - your shadow never dies Murder remembers. (Sa-re-vok!) The Gate remembers. (Sa-re-vok!)
