Crown of Ghosts

Star Wars - The Old Republic · Darth Nox

The story in the song

An original SWTOR tribute song for Darth Nox after the Sith Inquisitor class story, focused on the ghosts he binds, the dead emperors he refuses, and the Eternal Throne he takes on his own terms.

"Crown of Ghosts" follows Nox beyond the class finale: the Dread Masters, Malgus, the Revanite crisis, the carbonite years, Lana's rescue, Zakuul, Arcann, Vaylin, Valkorion, and the rise of the Eternal Alliance. The angle is not simple power fantasy. Nox is treated as a pragmatic survivor-ruler: he uses the dead, but he does not let them lead.

Lyrics

The dead know my footsteps. The dark knows my hands. I have carried louder voices than a living man withstands. Kallig watched the slave become the blade. Hord's old hunger circled close. Thanaton fell beneath the lesson: the useful dead are never ghosts. Then came masters crowned in terror. Then came Malgus, pure and proud. Then came Revan split by memory, calling war from holy doubt. Every voice said, borrow me. Every throne said, bleed. I learned the dead can open doors, but they do not get to lead. I wear the crown of ghosts, but they do not wear me. The dead can guard the doorway. They cannot hold the key. Valkorion whispered empire. I answered, watch and see. I wear the crown of ghosts, but they do not wear me. Carbon night became a coffin for the fool I used to be. Lana's hand returned the future. Zakuul returned the sea. Arcann broke the stars with orders. Vaylin burned beneath a cage. I learned an empire built on torment only trains its heirs for rage. So I listened to the shadows. Then I chose the living road. Ghosts can feed a furnace, but the hand must bear the load. I wear the crown of ghosts, but they do not wear me. The dead can guard the doorway. They cannot hold the key. Valkorion whispered empire. I answered, watch and see. I wear the crown of ghosts, but they do not wear me. He wanted my flesh for a palace. He wanted my will for a door. He promised eternal dominion like I had not survived gods before. I have bound worse things than kingdoms. I have killed more tempting lies. The throne did not make me eternal. It only opened its eyes. I wear the crown of ghosts, but they do not wear me. The dead can guard the doorway. They cannot hold the key. Eternal Emperor, broken survivor, ruler of what still breathes free. I wear the crown of ghosts, but they do not wear me. Ghosts at my shoulder. Stars at my feet. My will is the border no dead king can breach.
